The University of North Dakota General Surgery Residency Program was established in 1982 and is fully accredited by the ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education). The program is based in Grand Forks, North Dakota the home of the University of North Dakota and its School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Thirty eight residents have graduated from the program and have established surgical careers in a wide range of practices and locations. These include rural, urban and academic practices as well as fellowships in several specialties such as cardiothoracic surgery, transplantation surgery, colorectal surgery, plastic surgery, vascular surgery and trauma surgery. The program is designed to provide a wide range of clinical and academic training in general surgery which will produce well trained, competent general surgeons who have the opportunity to practice surgery in any type of practice situation they should choose.
