Education

A great place to raise a family!
A quality-of-life discussion would not be complete without a brief look at education. The Fargo-West Fargo-Moorhead area offers 37 public schools and nine private/parochial schools. More striking, though, is how area students perform on standardized tests compared with national averages:

  • In the ACT, the national average is 20.9. In Minnesota, the average is 22.1, and in North Dakota the average is 21.3. Locally, the average score is even higher, with Fargo at 23.4, West Fargo at 22.7 and Moorhead at 22.5.
  • In the SAT, the national average is 505 (verbal) and 508 (math). Average scores in North Dakota and Minnesota were significantly higher. In North Dakota, the average score was 596 (verbal) and 599 (math); in Minnesota, the average score was 598 (verbal) and 596 (math).

In addition to excellent schools, this area lends itself to many recreational activities, including soccer. On Saturday mornings in spring and fall, soccer fields throughout the area (and there are many!) teem with activity. And for children whose interests lie elsewhere—such as music, theater or dance—opportunities abound.
