For outdoor enthusiasts...
With four distinct seasons, North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota offer opportunities not found everywhere: Outstanding walleye fishing on scenic waters, cross-country skiing on miles of north-woods trails, canoeing on the area's hundreds of lakes and waterways. From biking to hiking to simply taking in a spectacular view, there's something for everyone.
And indoors...
There's plenty to choose from: libraries, exercise facilities, community centers, shopping malls, even quaint shopping districts. Museums such as the nationally known Plains Art Museum in Fargo attract people of all ages. The area's three higher-education institutions—North Dakota State University in Fargo, and Minnesota State University Moorhead and Concordia College in Moorhead—offer stimulating lectures, plays, concerts, and sporting events.
The list goes on:
- The Fargo-Moorhead Community Theater
- Trollwood Performing Arts School (a summer-school program for high-school students—staffed by nationally known professionals)
- Community events such as Fargo's annual Downtown Street Fair and Moorhead's Scandinavian Hjemkomst Festival
- The Fargo-Moorhead Symphony and Lake Agassiz Concert Band, featuring visiting musicians from the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C.
- And for baseball fans, summer brings another fun, lively season with the Northern League's F-M RedHawks.
For big-city entertainment...
without the big-city hassle, take in a concert at the FargoDome. Performers have included Garth Brooks, Elton John and the Rolling Stones. Even more cultural and entertainment opportunities are but a drive away, with Winnipeg, Manitoba, 225 miles to the north and Minneapolis/St. Paul 225 miles to the south
