The work in the Geiger laboratory is focused on brain energy metabolism, HIV-1 protein neurotoxicity and HIV-1 associated dementia, protecting against increased blood brain barrier leakage in various models of neurodegenerative diseases, and the role of intracellular stores of calcium in neuronal cell life and death. With continuous funding from federal grants over the past 25 years, Dr. Geiger, with members of his laboratory, has published over 130 full-length papers, reviews and book chapters.
