What type of research studies are conducted by the NORTHSTAR network?
NORTHSTAR research studies will focus on a variety of areas, such as best practices research, identification and testing of new methods of health care delivery, and quality improvement within the rural primary care setting. The specific topics of the studies will be decided on by the members of the network.
How much time do I need to devote to NORTHSTAR research on a weekly basis?
The amount of time spent per week by practitioners depends entirely upon the particular study and the level of interest he or she has in the project. Practitioners can devote as many or as few hours as they wish. We estimate that the average practitioner will spend 4-6 hours per year on NORTHSTAR projects.
I work for a practitioner who is not interested in research, but I am? Can I still become a member of NORTHSTAR?
Absolutely! We are interested in and actively seeking individuals from all areas and levels of primary care to become part of the NORTHSTAR network. We are interested in the opinions of all primary care providers.
How many studies will I need to commit to each year?
There is no minimum commitment for practitioners. When we begin a study, we will approach you about participating in any study for which your patients are eligible participants. We do understand that your time is valuable and you should feel no pressure to commit to a set number of studies each year.
