Bruce Pitts, MD

Dr. Pitts is Senior Executive of System and Clinical Support Services and Director of Medical Education at MeritCare. He is also Associate Dean of the Southeast Campus, Director of Graduate Medical Education and Professor of Medicine at UND and serves as one of the attending physicians on medicine service. He completed his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and his internal medicine residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia . His research interests include healthcare quality improvement, applications of clinical guidelines to medical practice and alterations in physician behavior.

 

William Newman, MD

Dr. Newman is Professor and Chair of the UND Department of Medicine, Clerkship Director of UND Internal Medicine and Chief of the Division of Endocrinology at VAMC. He completed his medical degree at the UND School of Medicine in Grand Forks and the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio . His residency in internal medicine was completed at the University of Minnesota Affiliated Hospitals in Rochester NY . His research interests include medical teaching models, evidence-based medicine and diabetes.

 

David Theige, MD

Dr. Theige is Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Training Program and the Transitional Year Residency Program and Associate Professor of Internal Medicine. He is also a general internist and hospitalist at MeritCare. Dr. Theige completed his medical degree and his internal medicine residency at UNDSMHS, and a Primary Care Faculty Development Fellowship at Michigan State University . He is a past-President of Clerkship Directors in Internal Medicine and has served as Assistant Dean for Clinical Education at UNDSMHS. His academic interests include evidence-based medicine and healthcare quality improvement.

 

Julie Blehm, MD

Dr. Blehm is director of the Residency Clinic at MeritCare and is an Associate Professor of Medicine at UND. She is also the director of chronic disease management at MeritCare. She completed her medical degree at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks and her internal medicine residency at Iowa Methodist Medical Center (affiliated with the University of Iowa ) in Des Moines . Her research interests are clinical quality improvement including areas of diabetes, preventative healthcare, CHF and coronary artery disease.
