Objectives of the Elective:
-
To provide orientation to the student in all areas of general ENT work.
-
Give the student an opportunity to see and workup those conditions that
are encountered in ENT, general medicine, family medicine, and pediatrics.

Gain experience and be taught the techniques of nasopharyngoscopy, indirect
laryngoscopy, and the use of headlight.

Review common diseases and examination techniques in evaluation of ears,
nose, and throat.
Instructional Activities:
-
Strong emphasis on clinical experience and evaluation of the patient on
an outpatient basis.

Specific reading assignments to facilitate an understanding of the disease
processes.
-
The student should be present in the OR, wards, and clinic as defined by
the preceptor.

The student will be available for case discussion with the preceptor.
Standards of Performance (Outcomes) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

The student will be observed performing a physical examination.

The student will be assigned patient workups which will be reviewed with
the preceptor.

The preceptor will complete a written evaluation which will be presented
to the assistant dean for the northwest campus.
