Positions: One per period per preceptor
Objectives of the Elective:
- Improve the student's skills related to urologic evaluation.
- The student will become familiar with the standard laboratory tools
and their application to establish the diagnosis.
- The student will learn the counter indications and indications to various
urologic surgical and diagnostic techniques.
- This elective will include a variety of urological experiences; namely,
male, female, pediatric, and neurogenic vesical dysfunction cases.
Instructional Activities:
- The student will work up a variety of patients that he/she may follow
through from first encounter until hospital discharge.
- The student will spend time in the outpatient clinic as time permits.
- The student will be given reading topics on a regular basis.
- The student will assist all major surgical procedures and also be present
at minor procedures and endoscopic procedures.
- The radiological and pathological ramifications of those cases studied
by the student might appropriate using the radiologist and pathologist
in this phase of teaching.
Standards of Performance (Outcomes) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:
- The student's written history and physical evaluations will be gone
over on a one-to-one basis.
- The student will be assigned reading topics approximately twice a week.
These will be evaluated in regular teaching sessions.
Criteria for Grading:
A written report will be presented to the assistant dean of the northwest
campus and the student upon completion of elective.
