Positions: One per period

Objectives of the Elective:

  1. To manage procedures for rendering a patient insensible to pain and emotional stress during surgical, obstetrical, and certain medical procedures.
  2. To give support of life functions under the stress of anesthetic and surgical manipulations.
  3. To give clinical management of the patient unconscious from whatever cause.
  4. To manage problems in pain relief.
  5. To manage problems in cardiac and respiratory resuscitation.
  6. To be able to apply specific methods of respiratory therapy.
  7. To give clinical management of various fluid, electrolyte and metabolic disturbances.

Instructional Activities:

  1. Operating room - anesthesia administration.
  2. Respiratory therapy rounds and attendance with therapist.
  3. Intensive care unit - management of patients on respiratory.
  4. Emergency room, etc. - cardiac arrest attendance.

Standards of Performance (Outcomes) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

  1. Directly observe performance in 1-2-3 above and 5.
  2. Discussions of 4 and 7.
  3. A written evaluation of each student will be sent to the assistant dean of the northwest campus.

  1. Knowledge.
  2. Attitude.
  3. Performance.
  4. Cooperation.
