Objectives of the Elective:
-
To manage procedures for rendering a patient insensible to pain and emotional
stress during surgical, obstetrical, and certain medical procedures.
-
To give support of life functions under the stress of anesthetic and surgical
manipulations.
-
To give clinical management of the patient unconscious from whatever cause.
-
To manage problems in pain relief.
-
To manage problems in cardiac and respiratory resuscitation.
-
To be able to apply specific methods of respiratory therapy.
-
To give clinical management of various fluid, electrolyte and metabolic
disturbances.
Instructional Activities:
-
Operating room - anesthesia administration.
-
Respiratory therapy rounds and attendance with therapist.
-
Intensive care unit - management of patients on respiratory.
-
Emergency room, etc. - cardiac arrest attendance.
Standards of Performance (Outcomes) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:
-
Directly observe performance in 1-2-3 above and 5.

Discussions of 4 and 7.
-
A written evaluation of each student will be sent to the assistant dean
of the northwest campus.
