Objectives of the Elective:

  1. Preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative care of surgical patients.
  2. Exposure to general surgical experience.
  3. Emergency room experience with the preceptor.

Instructional Activities:

  1. Hands-on assistance during surgery and endoscopic procedures.
  2. Case presentation with review of current literature.
  3. Availability of gynecological, orthopaedic and urological surgical procedures for observation and review.

Standards of Performance (Outcomes) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

  1. Attentiveness.
  2. Completeness of assigned reading.
  3. Retention of information.
  4. Ability to evaluate and apply appropriate surgical treatment regimes.

Criteria for Grading:

  1. Attendance.
  2. Information retention and acquisition.
  3. Appropriate interest.
  4. Personal conduct.
