Objectives of the Elective:

  1. Familiarize student(s) to adult male and female urologic diseases.
  2. Review of female uro-gynecologic problems and evaluation and treatment  modalities for such..
  3. To acquaint student(s) to different diagnostic procedures and armamentarium used in urologic work up.
  4. To expose student(s) to operating room situations during urologic instrumentation.
  5. To stimulate students' interest in urologic field and practice or related areas..

Instructional Activities:

  1. Clinic setting--seeing patients with preceptor demonstration of taking history and doing physical examination.
  2. Hospital setting--admitting patients with preceptor doing history and physical examination.
  3. Making rounds and outlining treatment plans for patients.
  4. Observing diagnostic procedures, interpreting radiologic films with preceptor and examining pathologic slides.
  5. Hands-on demonstrations as possible with intraoperative responsibilities commensurate with experience.

Standards of Performance (Outcomes) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

  1. At end of period, student(s) should be able to do history and physical examination.
  2. Should outline diagnostic procedures to arrive at a diagnosis(es), rationalize the need for such procedure.

Criteria for Grading:

  1. Attendance and promptness.
  2. Show of interest and enthusiasm in observing and learning process.
  3. Ability to integrate all gathered knowledge from classrooms and use it to clinical applications.
