Objectives of the Elective:
-
Familiarize each student with basic anatomy of the eye.
-
The student will become knowledgeable with eye physiology and pharmacology.
-
Each student will recognize the normal eye versus abnormal eye states.
-
The student will recognize systemic diseases in the eye.
-
Emergency conditions of the eye will become familiar to the student.
Instructional Activities:
-
The student will meet daily with the preceptor.
-
Each student will spend a minimum time in surgery to obtain the objectives
of the course.

The student will see most of the eye patients in a clinical setting with
his preceptor.

Each student will have assigned readings in standard ophthalmology texts.
Standards of Performance (Outcome) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

The overall conduct, performance, and attitude of each student will be
evaluated.

Daily discussion.

The preceptor will submit a written evaluation of each student.

Attendance and interest of each student.

Proficiency of skills in a clinical setting.

Proficiency in supervised patient care activities.
