Objectives of the Elective:

  1. To become acquainted with the common problems seen in an otorhinolaryngology practice.
  2. To become competent in performing a complete otorhinolaryngological examination and simple office procedures.
  3. To become familiar with common diseases of the ear, nose, throat, and neck.
  4. Experience in management of head and neck tumors.

Instructional Activities:

  1. Examination of patients in the outpatient department, emergency room and in the hospital.
  2. Assist in the operating room.
  3. Participation in departmental conferences.

Standards of Performance (Outcome) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

  1. Ability to perform a standard head and neck exam including indirect mirror exams.
  2. Interpretation of simple audiograms.
  3. Recognition and evaluation of common ENT disorders such as chronic otitis media, chronic sinusitis, and neck mass.
  4. General knowledge of head and neck anatomy.

Criteria for Grading:

Student's clinical performance and knowledge gained during rotation.
