Objectives of the Elective:

  1. Expose the student to a variety of musculoskeletal disorders.
  2. Familiarize the student with evaluation techniques used to diagnose musculoskeletal disorders.
  3. Familiarize the student with the modalities and exercises available to treat physical therapy/sports medicine patients.
  4. Direct observation of treatment plans used for different pathologies.

Instructional Activities:

  1. Direct observation of physical therapist/athletic trainer.
  2. Hands-on evaluation of patients.

Standards of Performance (Outcomes) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

  1. Daily log of types of patients.
  2. Direct observation of preceptor for evaluation of clinical skills.
  3. A written evaluation will be presented to the student and the assistant dean for the appropriate campus.

Criteria for Grading:

  1. Evaluation of student's clinical skills.
  2. Student's knowledge of anatomy and musculoskeletal pathology.
