Objectives of the Elective:

  1. Obtain basic understanding of radiation oncology. Evaluate patients with a wide variety of malignant diseases.
  2. Appreciate how radiation is utilized in treatment of cancer patients.
  3. Attain basic knowledge regarding radiation efficacy, side effects and indications.

Instructional Activities:

  1. Regular scheduled conferences.
  2. Witnessing various radiation oncology procedures and exams.
  3. Assigned reading material.
  4. New patient complete work-ups and discussion of patient oncologic diagnosis and treatment.

Standards of Performance (Outcome) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

  1. At the preceptor's discretion, a case quiz may be given at the end of the rotation.
  2. Initiative and appropriateness shown by the student during the rotation.

Criteria for Grading:

  1. Performance on case quiz, if given.
  2. Overall ability to synthesize information presented during the rotation.
