Objectives of the Elective:

Familiarize students with role of diagnostic radiology in patient care.

Acquaint students with proper sequencing of procedures, indications and
contraindications.

Teach basic film reading techniques.
Instructional activities will include the following:

The student will sit with hospital-based radiologist each day and participate
in interpretation of fluoroscopy exams, film reading, nuclear, medicine
and ultrasound.

Library of teaching films, tapes (audio and video) and weekly video conferences
from University of California will be observed by the student.

There will be correlation with surgery and pathology on current cases by
viewing and correlating with gross specimens and microscopic diagnosis.

The student will participate in monthly radiology and tumor conferences.
Standards of Performance Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

Daily discussions with preceptor will be used to judge attainment of objectives.

Each student will organize and present a 20-minute conference on a specific
subject during his final week.

A written evaluation will be submitted to the assistant dean of the northwest
campus at the end of the rotation.
