Objectives of the Elective:

  1. Obtain basic understanding of radiology procedures and how they physically impact the patient.
  2. Appreciate how to use the radiologist as a true consultant in patient management and work-up.
  3. Attain basic interpretive skills for simple radiology examinations such as chest films, abdomen and bone films, etc.

Instructional Activities:

  1. Regular scheduled conferences at either hospitals.
  2. Witnessing various radiology procedures and exams.
  3. Assigned reading material.
  4. View box review of radiographic films and imaging studies with the radiologist.

Standards of Performance (Outcomes) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

  1. At the preceptor's discretion, a case quiz may be given at the end of the rotation.
  2. Appropriate answering of questions posed by radiologist to student during the rotation.
  3. Initiative and appropriateness shown by student during the rotation.

Criteria for Grading:

  1. Performance on case quiz.
  2. Performance during questioning on a daily basis by radiologist.
  3. Overall ability to synthesize information presented during the rotation.
  4. Radiologist's subjective assessment of student's ability to answer questions relating to disease process and pathophysiology.
