Topics to be covered include: enzymology of myocardial ischemia, infarction;enzymology
of hepatic, disease acid base disorders; infectious diseases, laboratorymicrobiology;
antimicrobial therapy;basic immunology/immunity; immunocompromise host;
anemias, differential diagnosis; myeloproliferative andlymphoproliferative
disorders; basic principles of transfusion therapy; hepatic; neoplasia;
liver; kidney; metabolic; endocrine; breast and pulmonary diseases; oncology
pathology.
Standards of performance indicating attainment of objectives, including
how this will be documented.

The student will study a minimum of two cases daily.

Relevant clinical, laboratory and morphologic data will be reviewed with
the pathologist daily.

The student is required to summarize all of the above and include an appropriate
review of two pertinent published references for each case study.

Although the student may select case studies, he will at the completion
of the elected period be required to have an understanding of the following
commensurate with his education/experience: clinical chemistry, clinical
microbiology, clinical immunology, clinical hematology, and transfusion
therapy.
Criteria for Grading:

Perceived fund of knowledge in this subject area before the rotation begins
at the completion of the rotation.

Performance during rotation.

Interaction with the technical personnel.
