Objectives:  Following successful completion of this elective, the student will be able to:

  1. Perform a selected set of research procedures.
  2. Know the applications and limitations of the procedures.
  3. Interpret the data obtained.

Instructional Activities: During this elective, students will be involved in/experience:

  1. Learning assigned laboratory procedures.
  2. Working at the bench with direct instruction from faculty and experienced lab personnel
  3. Interpretation of the data obtained.
  4. Reading/discussing relevant literature and reference.
  5. Informal didactic learning related to the topic of interest.

Criteria for Grading: During and following this elective, the preceptor will:

  1. Assess the student's ability to properly perform and complete the assigned procedures.
  2. Assess the student's knowledge of the application and limitations of the procedures.
  3. Assess the student's knowledge of the basic mechanisms involved in the procedures.
  4. Assess the student's ability to properly interpret the data obtained.
