Objectives of the Elective:

The elective is designed to include both an inpatient and outpatient experience. The student will function as an intern and thus will experience care of patients on a general medicine service, as well as those in the intensive care unit setting and emergency room.

Instructional Activities:

  1. The student will function as an intern.
  2. He/she will be responsible for internal medicine consultations, and will take internal medicine call with their preceptor.
  3. The student will have the opportunity to participate in any procedures.
  4. The student will be responsible for presenting one clinical conference during the rotation.
  5. There will be daily didactic teaching with the preceptor.

Standards of Performance Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

A written evaluation will be forwarded to the assistant dean of the northwest campus at the end of the rotation.
