Objectives of the Elective:
The elective is designed to include both an inpatient and outpatient
experience. The student will function as an intern and thus will experience
care of patients on a general medicine service, as well as those in the
intensive care unit setting and emergency room.
Instructional Activities:
- The student will function as an intern.
- He/she will be responsible for internal medicine consultations, and
will take internal medicine call with their preceptor.
- The student will have the opportunity to participate in any procedures.
- The student will be responsible for presenting one clinical conference
during the rotation.
- There will be daily didactic teaching with the preceptor.
Standards of Performance Indicating Attainment of Objectives:
A written evaluation will be forwarded to the assistant dean of the
northwest campus at the end of the rotation.

- Psychosocial.
- Procedural skills.
- Clinical competence.
- Conference presentation.
