Objectives of the Elective:

  1. Introduction to cardiovascular disease.
  2. EKG interpretation.
  3. Introduction to the specialized procedures of cardiology.
  4. Development of understanding of natural history of cardiovascular disease processes and the effect and timing of intervention.

Instructional Activities:

  1. Daily rounds.
  2. Consultation on in-house patients.
  3. Interpretation of assigned number of electrocardiograms.

Standards of Performance (Outcomes) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

  1. Interaction with preceptor on a daily basis.
  2. Presentation of cases.
  3. Electrocardiographic interpretation by medical students.
  4. Assignment and discussion of review articles.

Criteria for Grading:

  1. Oral examination at the end of elective.
  2. A written evaluation will be presented to the assistant dean of the northwest campus upon completion of elective.
