Objectives of the Elective:
-
To provide the student interaction in Cardiology exposure to interpretation
of cardiac electrophysiology; i.e., EKG, etc.
-
Exposure to selective patients with cardiac arrhythmias. To learn
diagnostic and management skills.

Review current topics in cardiovascular literature.
-
Discuss cardiac anatomy and physiology.
-
Name mechanism of action and toxicity of commonly-used cardiac drugs.
Instructional Activities:
-
Electrocardiogram interpretation.
-
Inpatient and outpatient consultaiton and rounds.
-
Directed reading.
-
One-on-one discussions of the pathophysiologic basis of cardiovascular
diseases and therapeutic interventions.
Standards of Performance (Outcomes) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

Improved ability to interpret ECG's.

Improved ability to recognize cardiac arrhythmia.

Discussions with student demonstrating a basic understanding of cardiac
electrophysiology.
Criteria for Grading:

Attendance and interest level of studewnt.
