Objectives of the Elective:

  1. Become familiar with team approach to patient care.
  2. Become familiar with basic rehabilitative needs of stroke patients.
  3. Exposure to SCI, CHI, neuromuscular disease patients and their specific rehabilitative needs.
  4. Basic understanding of electrodiagnostics.
  5. Exposure to evaluation and treatment of acute musculoskeletal conditions.
  6. Basic understanding and rationale for use of exercise and modalities.

Instructional Activities:

  1. Complete patient evaluation in hospital and development of treatment plan.
  2. Complete patient evaluation in clinic setting.
  3. Observation and participation in electrodiagnosis.
  4. Short presentation on topic of interest.

Standards of Performance (Outcomes) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

  1. Prioritize basic rehab objectives for stroke patient.
  2. Prioritize basic rehab objectives for SCI patient.
  3. Prioritize basic rehab objectives for CHI patient.
  4. Demonstrate orally understanding of therapy prescriptions.

(All evaluated by direct observation.)

Criteria for Grading:

  1. Completion of instructional activities.
  2. Completion of objectives in satisfactory fashion.
