Objectives of the Elective:
- Become familiar with team approach to patient care.
- Become familiar with basic rehabilitative needs of stroke patients.
- Exposure to SCI, CHI, neuromuscular disease patients and their specific
rehabilitative needs.
- Basic understanding of electrodiagnostics.
- Exposure to evaluation and treatment of acute musculoskeletal conditions.
- Basic understanding and rationale for use of exercise and modalities.
Instructional Activities:
- Complete patient evaluation in hospital and development of treatment
plan.
- Complete patient evaluation in clinic setting.
- Observation and participation in electrodiagnosis.
- Short presentation on topic of interest.
Standards of Performance (Outcomes) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:
- Prioritize basic rehab objectives for stroke patient.
- Prioritize basic rehab objectives for SCI patient.
- Prioritize basic rehab objectives for CHI patient.
- Demonstrate orally understanding of therapy prescriptions.
(All evaluated by direct observation.)
Criteria for Grading:
- Completion of instructional activities.
- Completion of objectives in satisfactory fashion.
