Positions: 1 per period

Objectives of the Elective:

  1. Gain knowledge/experience in evaluation and treatment of pulmonary problems.
  2. Learn basics of ventilation management.
  3. Become comfortable with interpretation of PFTs.

Instructional Activities:

  1. See inpatients and outpatients with lung diseases.
  2. Read PFTs.

Standards of Performance (Outcomes) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

  1. Able to interpret PFTs.
  2. Able to order settings for ventilator management.
  3. Able to take history and perform physical exam appropriate for patient.
  4. Able to generate list of differential diagnosis, diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
  5. Perform a literature review and oral/written presentation of a topic.

Criteria for Grading:

  1. Degree of expertise of above obtained.
  2. Interest shown.
