Objectives of the Elective:

  1. Become familiar with the team approach to patient care.
  2. Become familiar with basic rehabilitative needs of rehabilitation patients (CVA, ortho, SCI, CHI).
  3. Exposure to evaluation and care of musculoskeletal patients.
  4. Exposure to chronic pain managment.
  5. Basic understading of electrodiagnosis.

Instructional Activities:

  1. Patient evaluation with clinic outpatients, hospital consults and admissions.
  2. Observation and participation in EMG's, botox injections, and trigger point injections.
  3. Participation in team conferences.
  4. Short presentation on topic of interest.
  5. Observation of all major disciplines involved in rehab--speech, PT, OT, social work.

Standards of Performance (Outcomes) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

  1. Participation in instruction activities and completion of rotations.
  2. Demonstrate acquisition of basic knowledge as related to objectives.

Criteria for Grading:

  1. Attendance and interest level of student.
  2. Professional attributes and interpersonal skills.
  3. Degree of improvement.
  4. A written evaluation of the student's performance will be sent to the assistant dean of the Southwest Campus.
