Objectives of the Elective:
-
Become familiar with the team approach to patient care.
-
Become familiar with basic rehabilitative needs of rehabilitation patients
(CVA, ortho, SCI, CHI).

Exposure to evaluation and care of musculoskeletal patients.

Exposure to chronic pain managment.
-
Basic understading of electrodiagnosis.
Instructional Activities:
-
Patient evaluation with clinic outpatients, hospital consults and admissions.
-
Observation and participation in EMG's, botox injections, and trigger point
injections.
-
Participation in team conferences.
-
Short presentation on topic of interest.
-
Observation of all major disciplines involved in rehab--speech, PT, OT,
social work.
Standards of Performance (Outcomes) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

Participation in instruction activities and completion of rotations.
-
Demonstrate acquisition of basic knowledge as related to objectives.
Criteria for Grading:
-
Attendance and interest level of student.
-
Professional attributes and interpersonal skills.
-
Degree of improvement.
-
A written evaluation of the student's performance will be sent to the assistant
dean of the Southwest Campus.
