Objectives of the Elective:

  1. Review the basic concept of internal medicine.
  2. Bedside evaluation of patients with medical problems.
  3. Review internal medicine concepts and updated medical management.
  4. Try to instruct the student in the "art" of medicine.

Instructional Activities:

  1. Twice a day rounds.
  2. Case presentations.
  3. Review articles of referred journals.
  4. Discuss topics pertinent to problems currently in the service.

Standards of Performance (Outcomes) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

  1. Student will be evaluated daily as he/she presents cases.
  2. Topics of discussion will serve as a parameter to determine student participation on literature research and eagerness to learn.
  3. Availability of the search literature will be evaluated when topics are assigned.

Criteria for Grading:

  1. Punctuality.
  2. Relation to staff and personnel.
  3. Proper case presentation.
  4. Ability to research literature on patient care problems.
