Objectives of the Elective:

Learn to evaluate health problems from a public health perspective vs.
a patient perspective.

Learn to use epidemiologic methods to evaluate public health issues.

Learn to design interventions on a community-wide basis.

Learn to find and use public health data from a variety of sources.
-
Learn to work in a cross-cultural community.
Instructional Activities:
-
Plan an epidemiologic investigation with preceptors.
-
Collect data for above.
-
Evaluate data; recommend an action plan based on conclusions.

Carry out intervention, if time permits.

Evaluate effectiveness of intervention if time permits.
Standards of Performance (Outcomes) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

Develop a written plan for epidemiologic investigation acceptable to preceptor.

Collect adequate amounts of data to carry out #1.
-
Develop written report indicating reasonable analysis of investigation.
-
Time permitting--carry out intervention and evaluate effectiveness.
