Objectives of the Elective:
-
Acquaint students with illnesses frequently encountered in outpatient settings.
-
Become familiar with standard outpatient procedures performed in the office
setting; i.e., suturing, work treatment, skin biopsy, etc.

Become familiar with focused interviewing techniques and care plan formulation.
-
Become familiar with interpretation of laboratory results, x-ray and pathology
studies and clinical correlation of the above.
Instructional Activities:
-
During the regular academic year, approximately 28,000 people are seen
at the Student Health Service, presenting outpatient medical problems which
would be diagnosed and treated in any busy general clinic. Office experience
would make up the major experience in this elective.

Interviewing techniques, care plan formulation, ordering and interpretation
of laboratory, history and physical of hospitalized patients.

Patient education.

Observe and practice procedures; i.e., suturing, skin lesion removal, observe
x-ray techniques and interpretation of films, discussion of clinical cases.
