Ward Rounds 2008-2009 Schedule
As of January 1, 2007, all third year and fourth year students on General Surgical clerkships or acting internships will be required to attend the Department of Surgery core conferences which include the Morbidity and Mortality conference and Surgery Grand Rounds. Morbidity and Mortality conferences are held weekly on Thursday morning from 7:00 am to 8:00 am. This conference consists of case presentations from the surgical residents with discussion of the surgical rationale and expected outcome for these cases. In addition, from 8:00 to 8:30, there is an educational conference which consists of discussion between the faculty, residents and students on a specific topic in general surgery. Also each week there will be a resident assigned to do some research on this topic and give a short presentation on the CURRENT literature regarding that topic. After the resident presentation the conference will conclude with two Absite review questions that will be chosen by the sponsoring attending.
Once a month, the educational conference will focus on Professionalism and Ethics (general discussion based on an article that all are assigned to read). These articles are available on the Department of Surgery website under Calender of Events and can be downloaded or printed for your convenience. Surgical Grand Rounds are held on the first and third Fridays of each month at 12:00 noon. These didactic presentations are given by surgical residents or attending faculty both from the surgery department and from other institutions.
Video conferencing is available from all campuses, at the following locations:
Fargo: SE Campus, Room 227
Merit Care Medical Center (Fargo): Clinic Auditorium
Minot: NW Campus Conference Room
Bismarck: SW Campus Conference Room B
