Educational/Clinical Background:
I have a B.S. degree in Occupational Therapy, M.S. degree
in Education, and a Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning: Research
Methodologies. My clinical practice background has been
in the areas of acute care, adult rehabilitation, home
health, outpatient rehabilitation, long-term care, and
clinical services management. I’ve worked clinically
in Fargo, ND and in Duluth, MN.
OT Department Responsibilities:
I teach coursework related to OT practice aspects for
people who have physical dysfunction, courses for third
year MOT students on community-based health systems, and
two on-line MOT courses. I also mentor third year MOT
students who are developing their scholarly projects.
I very much enjoy advising students in scholarly projects
and seeing the plans develop into results that help our
clients and promote the profession. Other courses that
I have recently taught are principles of muscle function
and quantitative research for OT.
Research/Scholarly Interests:
My clinical and research interests include a wide variety
of topics related to neurorehabilitation, OT practice
for adults who have physical or cognitive-perceptual dysfunction,
and occupation-based practice that encourages participation
and better quality of life. I am currently pursuing clinical
research on interventions for persons after stroke and
in understanding hand therapy from a client perspective.
My other scholarly interests have to do with promoting
student learning, including knowledge of evidence-based
practice (which has to do with making good clinical decisions
based on experience, knowing the client’s interests,
and research evidence).
