The
Northwest Campus currently hosts 14 fourth year
medical students and 15 family medicine residents.
As a result, a good selection of clinical rotations
and the best preceptors are usually available
for students. We have an outstanding internal
medicine acting internship which is directed
by Jeffrey Verhey, MD. Our emergency medicine
rotation is directed by Paul Olson, MD and has
been highly regarded by students as is the neonatology
rotation with Thomas Carver, DO. For anyone
interested in radiation oncology, Kevin Collins,
MD is an excellent and knowledgeable preceptor.
We also offer general electives that are provided
by phenominal preceptors such as orthopedic
surgery, neurosurgery, oncology & hematology,
nephrology & metabolic disorders, cardiovascular
& thoracic surgery, community medicine &
public health, plastic & reconstructive
surgery, allergy & immunology, and endocrinology.
A
calendar of events and hospital committee meetings
as well as a newsletter from the
Angus L. Cameron
Medical Library are distributed
to the medical community each month to keep
them informed of continuing education opportunities
as well as new links and resources that are
available to them on the Northwest Campus.
Our Medical Librarian , Karen Anderson, has
been serving the local medical community since
1996. She has eagerly assisted medical students,
residents, and the local medical community not
only with medline searches but by offering workshops
in various computer related topics. As you will
note from her homepage, she is an interesting
and accomplished webmaster, as well. When you
have an opportunity, please take some time to
browse through the extensive number of links
she has provided.
While "on campus" students are encouraged to
take part in the various activities of the medical
community in this part of the state. The
Center for Family Medicine, a
residency program of the medical school, as
well as
Trinity Health
provide continuing medical education opportunities
to the local community on a regular basis. In
addition, special medical events are hosted
throughout the year including the biannual CME
lecture series sponsored by the Northwest Campus.
