The
UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences-Northwest
Campus and the Northwest District Medical Society
co sponsor a biannual continuing medical education
lectures series for Northwest Campus physicians,
clinical faculty members, residents & medical
students, physician assistants, nurse practitioners
and allied health professionals. The event is
in May and September beginning with a social
gathering, followed by a dinner and the lecture
as well as a brief business meeting of the Northwest
District Medical Society. This lecture series,
which was instituted in 1999, has met with resounding
success as a result of the participation of
numerous nationally recognized speakers and
local medical community support. Attendance
is mandatory for resident physicians and medical
students who are on campus when these lectures
are offered.
Various
other continuing medical education conferences
are held regularly on the Northwest Campus with
Thursdays designated as hospital education days.
Accredited cancer management conferences are
held on the first and third Thursdays at noon
in the Skyline Room of Trinity Health-East.
Also at noon on the second and fourth Thursday
Category 1 conferences are held in the Skyline
Room of Trinity Health-East.
On all other days of the week (as well as on
Thursdays if a hospital conference is canceled)
there will be an educational opportunity for
students and resident physicians at the Center
for Family Medicine (a UNDSMHS residency program)
conference room. While all hospital conferences
have been approved for CME credit, the Center
for Family Medicine conferences do not offer
credits. Resident and student education conferences
offer the expertise of local physicians in a
wide range of medical specialties which include
an occasional administrative medical topic related
to practice management, computer use for medline
searching or e-mail communications, use of PDAs,
appropriate coding procedures or laboratory
science. Attendance is mandatory for residents
and strongly encouraged for medical students
while on campus. Lunch is provided at all conferences.
