While on the Northwest Campus, medical students
are welcome to participate as a part of the
medical community. From time to time they will
receive invitations to various residency and/or
community functions. While not required to attend,
they are encouraged to do so.
Each academic period during the year, Student
Luncheon Meetings are held. These are called
by the Assistant Dean of the Northwest Campus
to provide students with informal and uninterrupted
group academic counseling sessions. Students
"on campus" are expected to attend,
while others are encouraged to do so. In addition
to providing time to become acquainted with
the Northwest Campus staff and to get together
with other students, they receive academic counseling
and general information issued from the medical
school, as well as from the local community.
All issues which affect students while currently
on campus and in the future (i.e. current rotations,
application to residency programs, travel plans
and the actual interview process; graduation
issues such as mentors, orders, dates &
times, etc.) may be appropriate topics of conversation.
On occasion, special guests may be invited to
present information as well (i.e. the campus
medical librarian.) Lunch is provided by the
campus. Enjoyment is mandatory!!
Resident physicians welcome medical students
to participate in Journal Club at 6:30 p.m.
on the second Thursday of each month. These
events are held at a local restaurant courtesy
of various pharmaceutical representatives with
residents hosting appropriate pre-selected speakers.
Center for Family Medicine staff activities
are also open to medical students while they
are on campus (i.e. Christmas party, picnics,
residency graduation ceremony, etc.) In addition
to the entertainment of students while on campus,
this serves as an excellent opportunity for
staff members to get to know the "on campus"
medical students and welcome them to our community.
