Faculty
The Minot Center for Family Medicine Residency
Program employs four full-time family physicians and one
full-time clinical psychologist faculty member. In addition,
more than 60 community faculty participate in the teaching
program. These faculty members are enthusiastic about
teaching and include representatives of virtually all
of the specialties and sub specialties. Physicians from
the USAF Regional Hospital are also active in resident
teaching.
Participating Hospital
Trinity
Hospital is a 251-bed hospital and 441-bed nursing
home complex which provides comprehensive medical care
including a neonatal intensive care unit, heart catherization,
ultrasound, CT, and MRI scanning. Trinity is also a certified
Level II trauma center. Trinity Hospital is fully approved
by the JCAHO
. A regional United States Air Force Hospital, located
just outside the air base 10 miles away, provides residents
with exposure to an additional patient population of 15,000
military personnel and dependents.
Curriculum
The curriculum of the residency program
is made up of three main components: rotations, lectures,
and outpatient clinics.
Rotations: Rotations are based
on a one-on-one resident to faculty ratio which allows
for the best learning and teaching experience, as well
as invaluable hands-on experience in patient care. Since
the Minot Center for Family Medicine residency program
is the only postgraduate program in Minot, the residents
usually receive their choice of preceptors for rotations.
Lectures: A series of lectures
covering each of the specialty and sub specialty areas
has been established. Most of these educational conferences
are scheduled during the noon hour. Continuing education
conferences are also sponsored by Trinity Hospital on
a regular basis.
Outpatient Care: Experience in
ambulatory patient care is obtained at the Minot Center
for Family Medicine located only two blocks from Trinity
Hospital and only minutes from the regional United States
Air Force Hospital. Center facilities include patient
examination rooms, resident offices, library and conference
rooms, x-ray, a laboratory, ultrasound, minor surgery,
computer room, and business and administrative offices.
