The ROME track, a 28-week elective equivalent
to 28 credit hours, is an option during MS year 03.The other
twenty hours for year 03 are completed on the previously
selected Year 03 campus. Course selection for campus clerkships
will be directed by the campus dean and campus course directors,
and be dependent upon student educational needs that might
not be fulfilled at the ROME site. Campus clerkships will
include eight weeks of Neuroscience, and four weeks each
in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics & Gynecology.
After successfully meeting course requirements,
ROME students will have completed the equivalent of eight
weeks (credits) of both Surgery and Family Medicine at
the ROME site, eight weeks of Neuroscience on campus,
and eight week clerkships in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics,
and Obstetrics & Gynecology (the latter three equivalent
to four weeks on campus and four weeks at the ROME site),
thus will have fulfilled Year 03 requirements. Comprehensive
care and continuity of care are underlying concepts for
ROME. Learning will be facilitated by understanding specific
course objectives and/or requirements for each of the
six core disciplines. Each discipline will identify educational
objectives for the ROME months, and further identify learning
objectives for the on-campus rotations. Use of the learning
objectives identified by the courses will help focus learning.
The patient data base will be important
to assess learning, to document experiences and identify/document
learning issues. Other mechanisms to focus learning include
interactive (video or audio transmitted) case presentations
with identified learning issues, course specific quizzes
or exams, on-site presentations to both clinical and academic
faculty, and other potential activities or opportunities
provided by the various departments.
