This supplemental
collaborative effort between the University of North Dakota School
of Medicine and Health Sciences Departments of Family Medicine,
Internal Medicine, and Pediatrics proposes expansion and refinement
of the Rural Opportunities in Medical Education (ROME) experience.
This new collaborative effort will provide for the implementation
and evaluation of new learning issues, curriculum, preceptors, and
sites. The aim is to immerse medical students in a rural,
community-based practice setting, bring them into daily contact with
primary care role models, infuse clinical competency through
exposure to a variety of patient cases, and recruit students into
rural primary care. There are two project goals which will define
our program’s growth and achievement in these areas:
Goal I: Further
development and expansion of the eight-month ROME-Rural
Opportunities in Medical Education experience.
Goal II: Enhance
the Departments of Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and
Pediatrics capabilities to coordinate, support, and facilitate a
collaborative longitudinal rural experience. |
