Before starting you will need:

1. A current email account
2. SLIP kit installation


The SLIP kit installation will install Eudora (mail program), Netscape (internet browser), Trumpet Winsock and various other internet programs. If you have already installed SLIP and used the old dial up number for GF (777-6701) or have had a successful dial-up connection to Fargo (239-7154), skip to Step #2.

1.  Install the SLIP kit.

• Insert disk 1 into drive a:
• Click on File from the Program Manager menu bar.
• Click on Run from the File pull-down menu.
• Type A:\Setup in the text box and click on the ok button.
• You will be prompted for your name and email address.
• Choose full install
• 2.  Configure Trumpet Winsock for PPP

1. Start Trumpet Winsock.
2. Click on Setup from the File menu.
3. Configure or check the following options.
4. Change from Internal SLIP to Internal PPP.
5. Disregard the IP address field. It will be supplied by the UND server.
6. Choose OK.
7. Click on PPP Options from the File menu

1. Enter your complete email address (example: jqpublic@medicine.nodak.edu)
2. Choose OK.
3. You will need to restart Trumpet Winsock.

1. 3.  Connect with Trumpet Winsock

• Start Trumpet Winsock
• Choose Login from the Dialler menu.
• Enter UND dial-up number   GF: 777-0123    Fargo: 239-7154  Bismarck: 328-9510
• Your modem should dial in and connect.
