Mozilla Thunderbird & LDAP
Mozilla
Thunderbird is an excellent e-mail client that works
very well with the Med School's e-mail server. It's freely
available in Windows, Macintosh OS X, and various Unix
versions. These instructions describe how to setup an
installation of Thunderbird so it can lookup medicine.nodak.edu
addresses when composing messages.
From the Thunderbird menu, select Tools/Options
...
In the Options dialog that pops up, select
the Composition category, make sure Directory
Server is checked, and click the Edit Directories
... button
Click the Add button to add a new directory
server.
Give the new server a name, such as UNDSMHS,
and for hostname enter ldap.undsmhs.net Click
OK
You should see your new directory server listed, click
OK again.
Back in the main Options dialog, you should
see your new directory server also listed there now, click
another OK.
Test the setup by composing a new message. In the address
box you should be able to type a name now, either first
or last, and if you pause a second you should see a list
of matches within the Med School e-mail system. Use the
keyboard arrow keys to highlight the address you want and
hit enter to select.
