Mission Statement

Advancement of Biomedical Sciences through Basic Research:

The advancement of both medical care and biological science requires continuous research activity. It is strongly felt that basic research activity must be fostered to insure a high level of intellectual activity and faculty morale. No department can maintain a faculty of high quality without an adequate environment within which to carry on research activities. An objective of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology is, therefore, to foster research activity in its faculty by providing an environment conducive to productive and ongoing research activities.

Training in Morphology for Medical and Paramedical Personnel:

The morphological sciences are essential disciplines for the understanding of human biology and, in essence, form the foundation for studies of function and disease processes. They are, therefore, a requisite for the practice of any of the healing arts. It is an objective of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology to pursue a continuing high level of excellence in the teaching of morphological disciplines to professional and undergraduate students in health-related fields.

Training of Teachers and Researchers:

Faculty of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology feel strongly the need to perpetuate their discipline by the training of graduate students so that highly qualified teachers and researchers will be available for future demands of biomedical education. It is, therefore, an objective of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology to maintain its dedication to the training of graduate students in the morphological sciences.

A Resource of Service for the University and Community:

It is felt that basic biomedical science departments must contribute to the welfare of their institutions by participating in committee work, by providing instruction to students of other departments and by providing a resource for continuing medical education for physicians in practice.

Development of Human Relationships within the Academic Community:

The department is firmly committed to the principle that the development and fostering of human relationships must form a part of any academic program of excellence.
